Photo Diary: Sibu International Dance Festival 2015

This post has been drafted for almost three weeks now *guilty* but lets get down to business. Some time at the end of last month, I got the opportunity to embark on a 6D5N dance trip with a group of dancers from DA. We were headed for Sibu, Sarawak from the 22–27 September. Now you might think Malaysia isn't that big hooha of a country to travel to (which I'd kinda agree with) but fact is, the people we encountered in Sibu were all extremely friendly and helpful, especially the volunteers who worked for the festival over the few days. That, in itself was already very admirable. Not to mention everyone else who was present at the festival had never ending high spirits. In sum, this trip had been enriching, in the sense that all humble 14 of us got to witness professional dance troupes from around the world. In all honesty, some of them were so impressive I feel very much like a tiny ikan bilis around them. Alright, I'll let the pictures and captions do the talking. The lack of consistent blogging lately has seriously resulted in my laziness to write long entries so maybe... till next time!

Day 1: SG ✈︎ KL ✈︎ SIBU
Surprisingly everyone looks so awake in this picture because in actual fact, we had to gather at the airport at 7am for our morning flight. And as labelled, Kenneth is our choreographer, Peter our club director and Caroline the SIM staff who tagged along (we were all dubious at first but turns out she was such a joy to be around!)

Pretty flight buddies

My bubu keeps getting kidnapped (into someone elses' bag)

50 shades of bluueeee ♡

Back into my embrace finally

Touched down in Sibu, got transported back to hotel, dolled up and got ready for welcoming night!

Day 2: Outdoor Site-specific Performance @ Sibu Town Square
The Urban Broadway infused with a tinge of ching chong

Why was I standing so far apart from the rest idek hahahaha

After our own performance, we got to watch the rest of the troupes. This troupe from Sun-Shier Dance Theatre, Taiwan performed a piece entitled 'Runway' and of course, they had to pull volunteers up on stage with them and this was how Sarah and I ended up being all silly in front of an army of audience. Then again, it's really times like this when you should let your guards down and have fun, because we sure as hell did.

That split though!! It's a perfect 180° I kid you not

Day 3: Dance Concert Day One - 'Between'
Started the day early with stage & light plotting for our first performing item that day

One of my favourite picture/pose for this item! Entitled 'Between', the general concept behind this piece is the exploration of space between humans, in this case, the 6 dancers.

This stage has even better light effects than what we have back in our own SIM Performing Arts Theatre and we were genuinely amazed because who knew.

A contemporary workshop conducted by fellow Singaporeans - Movement Collective.
